McEwen LN, Karter AJ, Waitzfelder BE, Crosson JC, Marrero DG, Mangione CM, Herman WH. Diabetes Care. Predictors of mortality over 8 years in type 2 diabetic patients Translating Research Into Action for Diabetes (TRIAD). 2012 Mar 19. Epub ahead of print. To examine demographic, socioeconomic, and biological risk factors for all-cause, cardiovascular, and noncardiovascular mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes over 8 years and to construct mortality prediction equations.

Baseline characteristics of patients with diabetes and coronary artery disease enrolled in the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes

Top

Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes Study Group. Baseline characteristics of patients with diabetes and coronary artery disease enrolled in the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes (BARI 2D) trial. Am Heart J. 2008;156(3):528-536. The Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes (BARI 2D) trial was undertaken to determine whether early revascularization intervention is superior to deferred intervention in the presence of aggressive medical therapy.

Screening for coronary artery disease in patients with diabetes

Top

Bax JJ, Young LH, Frye RL, Bonow RO, Steinberg HO, Barrett EJ; ADA. Screening for coronary artery disease in patients with diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2007;30(10):2729-36. Coronary artery disease (CAD) accounts for a large fraction of the morbidity, mortality, and cost of diabetes. Recognizing this, nearly 10 years ago the American Diabetes Association published a consensus recommendation that clinicians consider a risk factor-guided screening approach to early diagnosis of CAD in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.

Control of Vascular Cell Proliferation and Migration by PPAR-γ

Top

Hsueh WA, Jackson S, Law RE. Control of Vascular Cell Proliferation and Migration by PPAR-y. Diabetes Care. 2001;24:392-397. Compared with nondiabetic subjects, type 2 diabetic individuals are at an increased risk for coronary artery disease and coronary restenosis after angioplasty or stenting.

Angioplasty Is More Effective Than Thrombolytic Therapy in Diabetic Patients With AMI

Hasdai D, Granger CB, Srivatsa SS, et al. Diabetes mellitus and outcome after primary coronary angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction: lessons from the GUSTO-IIb Angioplasty Substudy. J Am Coll Cardiol. 2000;35:1502-1512. We sought to compare the efficacy of primary angioplasty in diabetics versus nondiabetics and to evaluate the relative benefits of angioplasty over thrombolytic therapy among diabetics.

Type 2 Diabetes & Acute Myocardial Infarction: Angiographic Findings & Results of Invasive Therapeutic Approach in Type 2 Diabetic Vs Nondiabetic Pts

Top

Waldecker B, Waas W, Haberbosch W, et al. Type 2 Diabetes and Acute Myocardial Infarction Angiographic Findings and Results of an Invasive Therapeutic Approach in Type 2 Diabetic Versus Nondiabetic Patients. Diabetes Care. 1999;22:1832-1838. Mortality in diabetic patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) is high. The significance of the pretreatment coronary status in type 2 diabetic patients with acute MI, as well as the effect of mechanical revascularization using percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), has not been established.
