Plasminogen activator

A term used for a group of proteins that convert plasminogen into plasmin. It includes prourokinase, u-plasminogen activator (urokinase), and t-PA.

The following content matched the glossary term: Plasminogen activator

Pleiotropic action of short-term metformin & fenofibrate treatment, combined w lifestyle intervention, in type 2 diabetic patients w mixed dyslipidemia

Diabetes Care. 2009;32(8):1421-1424. To compare the effect of short-term metformin and fenofibrate treatment, administered alone or in sequence, on glucose and lipid metabolism, cardiovascular risk factors, and monocyte cytokine release in type 2 diabetic patients with mixed dyslipidemia.

Risk of type 2 diabetes among individuals with high and low glomerular filtration rates

Metabolic abnormalities frequently develop prior to the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. However, it is not known whether GFR predicts the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Overweight Latino children/adolescents have marked endothelial dysfunction & subclinical vascular inflammation w excess body fat & insulin resistance

Caballero AE, Bousquet-Santos K, Robles-Osorio L, et al. Overweight Latino children and adolescents have marked endothelial dysfunction and subclinical vascular inflammation in association with excess body fat and insulin resistance. Diabetes Care. 2008;31(3):576-582. We measured plasma markers of endothelial dysfunction, vascular inflammation, and pro-coagulation in obese Hispanic/Latino children and adolescents with normal glucose tolerance and determined their relationship to body composition and indexes of glucose and lipid metabolism.

Cardiovascular disease risk factors predict the development of type 2 diabetes: the insulin resistance atherosclerosis study

Cardiovascular disease risk factors predict the development of type 2 diabetes: the insulin resistance atherosclerosis study. Diabetes Care. 2004;27:2234-2240. In a few previous studies, cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors (RFs) have been shown to predict diabetes.

Role of intact proinsulin in diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Top

Pfutzner A, Pfutzner AH, Larbig M, Forst T. Role of intact proinsulin in diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Technol Ther. 2004;6:405-412. Insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. While this can be partly explained by an impairment of direct insulin action on the endothelial cell, an independent contribution can be assigned also to the secretory dysfunction of the beta-cell.

Low Insulin Sensitivity (Si = 0) in Diabetic and Nondiabetic Subjects in the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study

Haffner SM, D'Agostino R Jr., Festa A, et al. Low Insulin Sensitivity (Si = 0) in Diabetic and Nondiabetic Subjects in the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study. Is it associated with components of the metabolic syndrome and nontraditional risk factors?. Diabetes Care. 2003;26:2796-2803. To determine the meaning of Si = 0 derived from the frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test.

Tenerz A, Norhammar A, Silveira A, et al. Diabetes, Insulin Resistance, and the Metabolic Syndrome in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction Without Previously Known Diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2003;26:2770-2776. Individuals with diabetes have an increased morbidity from acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Lifestyle Modification Improves Endothelial Function in Obese Subjects With the Insulin Resistance Syndrome

Top

Hamdy O, Ledbury S, Mullooly C, et al. Lifestyle Modification Improves Endothelial Function in Obese Subjects With the Insulin Resistance Syndrome. Diabetes Care. 2003;26:2119-2125. Endothelial dysfunction has been reported in type 2 diabetic patients and in obese subjects with insulin resistance syndrome (IRS). This study evaluates the effects of weight reduction and exercise on vascular reactivity of the macro- and microcirculation in obese subjects with IRS.

To examine the effect of rosiglitazone on insulin resistance and blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, classified based on abnormalities of their renin-angiotensin system.

Increased Urinary Albumin Excretion, Endothelial Dysfunction, and Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation in Type 2 Diabetes

Stehouwer CDA, Gall MG, Twisk JWR, et al. Increased Urinary Albumin Excretion, Endothelial Dysfunction, and Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation in Type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes. 2002;51:1157-1165. In 328 type 2 diabetic patients followed for 9.0 years (mean), we investigated whether endothelial dysfunction and chronic inflammation (estimated from plasma markers) can explain the association between (micro)albuminuria and mortality.
