NDEI Mission Statement
The National Diabetes Education Initiative® (NDEI®) is a multicomponent educational program on diabetes designed for primary care physicians, endocrinologists, diabetologists, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care and management of patients with diabetes. NDEI programs address issues spanning the diabetes continuum—from the epidemiology and pathophysiology of the disease and its associated complications and comorbidities to the therapeutic options for prevention and treatment.
With a 16-year legacy of delivering high-quality, scientifically rigorous content, the NDEI stands as one of the nation’s premier medical education initiatives. In response to soaring diabetes prevalence rates and the imperative of keeping healthcare professionals up-to-date on the latest advances in managing diabetes, the NDEI leverages its faculty of leading physician-educators, its scientific integrity, and the unique vision of its Education Council of preeminent thought leaders to expand the scope of NDEI programs—both to address critical issues in diabetes research and to target new healthcare audiences.
NDEI.org: Trusted Online Destination for Diabetes Education
Acknowledging the vast array of education preferences among adult learners, the NDEI is uniquely poised to reach audiences through traditional and innovative educational venues—most notably its award-winning website, NDEI.org. This educational website is a community where a loyal, engaged audience gathers to obtain clinically relevant information and participate in skillfully designed educational programs that address practice gaps in diabetes. The website’s robust community of nearly 30,000 registered members represents virtually all endocrinologists and diabetologists in the United States, in addition to uniting the frontline clinical specialties mentioned previously. NDEI.org is a continually evolving “go-to” Internet resource for healthcare professionals who are committed to enhancing care for their patients with diabetes or prediabetes.
Multifaceted content on NDEI.org focuses on diabetes prevention, the progressive nature of diabetes, the rationale for aggressive lifestyle and pharmacologic management to delay disease progression, the role of pharmacologic agents alone and in combination for the treatment of diabetes and its complications and comorbidities, and strategies to improve patient adherence.
To address identified practice gaps in these areas, NDEI.org features scientifically rigorous, evidence-based programs and tools that enable practicing clinicians to
