Saul M. Genuth, MD, is professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University and an endocrinologist at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr Genuth has been a member of the American Diabetes Association and has served as an ad hoc member on its Scientific Program, Research Review, and Provider Recognition Program Policy committees. His government health agency activities include being chairman of the Data Monitoring Board Diabetes Prevention Program 2 and serving as an ad hoc member of the Metabolism Study Section of the National Institutes of Health. Dr Genuth also chairs the Study Group of Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications. From 1981 to 1993, administrative responsibilities for the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial included serving as chair of the Treatment and Planning committees and vice chair of the Study Group.

Dr Genuth has served on the editorial board of Metabolism and has been a reviewer for numerous medical and scientific journals, among them Archives of Internal Medicine, Diabetes, Diabetes Care, Diabetologia, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and The New England Journal of Medicine. He is the author of more than 100 publications on issues relating to the treatment and management of diabetes mellitus and associated disorders. Dr Genuth received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed a subsequent fellowship in endocrinology at Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina.
