James W. Reed, MD, is a Professor of Medicine Chief of Endocrinology & Metabolism in the Division of Internal Medicine and Section of Endocrinology at Grady Memorial Hospital, Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

A Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and the American College of Physicians, Dr Reed is a member of the Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association, American Medical Association, and American Society of Hypertension, among others. He was chair of Subcommittee JNC 5, Special Population and Ethnic Groups, and a member of the Parent Committee of the Joint National Committee on Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure. He has served on the Education Coordinating Committee of the National High Blood Pressure Council of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and is a former president of the International Society of Hypertension in Blacks. Dr Reed has published and lectured extensively on issues relating to the diagnosis and management of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.

He received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC, and was subsequently appointed to a research fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the Metabolic Research Unit of the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco.
